the problem with trazodone is that it potentiates cannabis – no good for the local donkey

believe me doc, i know… that year, there would be months where i slept 3-4 times… i have read quite a bit about other insomniacs and found myself amongst the worst of the worst. and im talking about not a single minute of sleep… not one second for days and days and days… i felt so ill and was so desperate for sleep, and the medication i took was various and the methods i pursued were dangerous… but in those states the thought process is entirely skewed. i am well now though.

how long does trazodone last? like if i took a 50mg pill at 11:00PM, what time would it wear off, roughly?

I used to take it for Aspergers anxiety(including social), TGN Pain, IC pain, sleep disorders, depression, then after workplace bullying caused PTSD the idiot docs in the subarctic village I was in told everyone I increased my dose because it was addicting. I was suicidal, there was no counseling and I was trapped in that village, it saved my life. They also refused me Gabapentin, stating it was not for nerve pain. Unbelievably stupid. There are a lot of idiot docs in AK. Damn dominionists too.

Please speak with your doctor about this. A relative of mine was recently prescribed Trazodone for sleeping problems, and he committed suicide last week. We think it was the pill. Please see your doctor if you are now becoming depressed. Good Luck.

It lasts 5-7 hours, and this is only the Half-Life.

trazodone has changed my life. tried various SSRIs, but i was agitated and unable to sleep.
trazodone gives me a good night’s sleep 9 times out of 10. some side effects early on in treatment but the benefits outweighed the dry mouth and morning grogginess.
i am now able to function like other people, sleep at night, feel a bit calmer for anxiety though i still need propranolol for the physical sensations of anxiety.

DOCTOR OF MIND. I hate the weight gain with mirtazapine would trazodone be a good alternative?
DOCTOROFMINDMD 24th December 2009 5:23 pm
yes
Aspiecelia 24th December 2009 6:37 pm
100 mg of Trazadone is a big dose to start out on. It should have been 25 to 50 mgms. It would do that to anyone
Jonseymark 25th December 2009 8:40 am
is trazodone less sedating than mirt
grebeikcir 7th January 2010 5:18 pm
I have been on Zoloft, Mirtazapine and Klonopin for the last 5 years. When first starting out, the Mirtazapine worked wonderfully for sleep. Now, I am finding myself up just about all night as if I were taking stimulants recreationally; Which I am not. My doctor prescribed Trazodone, and tonight will be ther first night of this “trial and error” phase… Just wanted to input my two cents, that I think Mirtazapine is GREAT as far as a “sedative” goes… We shall see how I react to Trazodone.

I hate you have to eat food for it to work!
AdamAdidas909 24th January 2010 11:28 am
It would be good if it helped you sleep, but it doesn’t.

this stuff gave me a headache and made my stomach hurt, and didnt help me fall asleep,. why do they give such crappy meds nowdays and sit there and act like they are are good for some reason.
dalesguy 9th February 2010 3:29 pm
It also could replace viagra. No kidding!
ihague4568 14th February 2010 6:10 pm
Trazodone does not completely replace the z drugs in my opinion. Trazodone quality sleep is ok, but it tends to leave me waking up often – like half my brain is still on. Strangly too I get less rebound insomnia with a single dose of a z drug. Z drugs can sometimes be addicting, but the gabaergic effect is not fully replicated by an antiserotonergic agent.

I was on trazodone for a while. It seemed to have some good effects on emotional problems, but I just couldn’t take the side effects. It helped me go to sleep, but it always felt like it was pounding me over the head with a sledge hammer to do it. I’d get all worried and sad right after I’d take it. Even at low doses.
