Samuel was a forty-six-year-old accounts receivable manager who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday of his life and fed up with his excessive and careless drinking behavior. Stated briefly, he hated the hangovers he went through on a regular basis, he was mad at himself for spending his hard-earned money on a worthless habit, he was tired of going through shattered relationship after shattered relationship due to his irresponsible drinking, he was sick of feeling weary every morning, and he missed his old drive for doing the things he enjoyed.

In addition he was irritated with the many times he failed an alcohol test at his workplace, he was upset with how physically unfit he was, he was fed up with paying for alcohol-related lawyer fees, he hated the fact that he had to go to court for his third DUI, and he was bored with his drinking pals.

In addition to the perceptible alcohol-related health problems he was going through, conceivably the most regretful part of his drinking routine was the untrustworthy and devious individual he had turned into. In his heart of hearts he realized that he had been deceitful about his drinking behavior to his relatives, family, and friends and he also knew he had been less than honest with himself about the “beneficial” outcomes of drinking. Not only this but he made excuses for guzzling three or four drinks before going to social events and he also justified needing a few drinks the first thing in the morning so that he could manage the “anxiety” at his place of employment.

His Depression and His Heavy and Hazardous Drinking Lead to Major Changes in His Life

Without a doubt Samuel was sick of putting up with the negative consequences of his depression and his careless and excessive drinking and finally decided that something major had to change in his life. So he determined that he would abstain from drinking, start focusing on becoming a more healthy person, get professional counseling, start exercising, involve himself in some worthwhile hobbies, and develop a new circle of friends.

Stated briefly, Samuel got to a special time in his life during which he comprehended that he hit rock bottom and was now ready to begin the gradual and slow road to health.

One of the ways that Samuel put his “plan” into action was by asking for a transfer at his workplace. When his request was approved, he moved 950 miles away to a new state. If nothing else, this positively made making new buddies and distancing himself from his old friends and buddies simpler. Then he contacted a healthcare professional in his new city and made an appointment for a thorough physical examination.

Samuel Meets With a Healthcare Professional About His Hazardous and Excessive Drinking and His Depression

After meeting with the healthcare practitioner and going through a number of laboratory tests, it was determined that Samuel had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and consequently was in need of alcohol treatment and alcohol detox. At this time, the healthcare practitioner made it a point to discuss the diverse signs of alcoholism, the symptoms of alcoholism, and information about alcohol long term effects with Samuel.

The healthcare professional then told Samuel that it was concluded that he was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for this medical issue.

Samuel Decides to Revitalize His Body by Exercising, Taking Vitamins and Minerals, Living an Alcohol-Free Lifestyle, Drinking Spring Water, and Eating Nutritious Foods

Due to his enthusiasm for following through with the rehabilitation protocol, after ten weeks of inpatient rehab, Samuel was ready to begin rehab on an outpatient basis. At this time, he started working at his new job and over the weeks began fortifying his body by eating nutritious foods, drinking distilled water, going to the gym, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and taking vitamins.

Samuel also dealt with his spiritual yearnings by joining the local Reformed church and participating in the weekly services.

After around five months of outpatient rehabilitation during which time he never suffered through a relapse, Samuel stopped going to alcohol therapy and instead began going five times every week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Going to these meetings helped Samuel continue his alcohol-free way of life, they provided him with the support he sought after, and they served as a unceasing reminder of the adverse outcomes that are associated with excessive and abusive drinking.

After going to AA meetings about eight-and-a-half months Samuel felt that he was ready for a relationship and so he started dating Celina, a young woman he met at church. It simply astonished Samuel how much more prepared he was for a dating relationship now that he had his careless and hazardous drinking under control. In fact it also amazed Samuel how much better life was now that he wasn’t under the control of his abusive and excessive drinking. Life was now rewarding and full of promise that he could have never yearned for or achieved when he was engaged in unhealthy and excessive drinking less than a year ago.

A Success Story That is Evidence of the Importance of Alcohol Therapy and the Power of Change

Samuel’s success story is a demonstration of the value of alcohol treatment and the power of positive thinking. As Samuel thought about his newfound lofty self concept and drive for involving himself in worthwhile, healthy activities, he was actually grateful that he made up his mind to do something constructive about his hazardous drinking rather than giving into his depression and into the lure of his addiction. The result: his life now has a positive direction, he is in command of his life rather than letting himself languish under the control of his addiction, he has more energy now compared with any time in his adult life, he is involved in a caring relationship, and he likes his new job responsibilities.

Nearly two weeks ago I heard about a twenty-two-year-old woman named Rachael who is manic depressive and who is also addicted to drugs and alcohol. I remember reading that under such circumstances, a person needs to get counseling for both medical problems and that mental health difficulties and dependency commonly occur in the same individual. Furthermore, I recall reading that a history of abusive and excessive drinking, drug addiction, and/or mental health concerns many times occur in the same family.

Plainly, Rachael is so overcome by both of her medical conditions that she basically has no drive to do much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in her life, Rachael finished three years of college. Rachael’s situation makes me wonder if she is an example of a person who has to hit life’s bottom before he or she gets alcohol and drug dependency counseling that results in long lasting recovery.

The Need For a Doctor She Trusts and a Counseling Program She Can Believe In

If I were in communication with Rachael I could recommend a number of websites that could possibly help her learn more about addiction and alcoholic behavior, significant substance abuse information, facts about alcoholism and drugs, and more info about addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. In my opinion, nonetheless, Rachael needs to locate a healthcare practitioner she trusts and a rehab protocol she can believe in and follow through over the long haul. I could be wrong but it seems logical to conclude that Rachael probably needs to acknowledge the fact that she cannot drink responsibly or use drugs if she wants to get sober, remain sober, and start on the route to lasting sobriety.

I am aware that there are a number of newly developed physician-prescribed drugs that can help Rachael through the drug and alcohol detoxification process, through her withdrawal symptoms, and help her avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse. Obviously it would be in Rachael’s best interests if she knew about these drugs.

It is fairly obvious that Rachael needs to understand the fact that there is entirely nothing affirmative about careless and abusive drinking and drug abuse and that involving herself in one or both situations is the route to shattered relationships, deteriorating health, financial difficulties, a premature death, poor work and school performance, and legal problems.

The Importance of Recovery Groups Such as Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous

There are possibly quite a few persons such as family members, other individuals, and friends who would want to help Rachael but she probably would experience greater tolerance from a recovery group such as Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous rather than listening to people who do not drink or who have never abused drugs.

When People Accomplish Things They Love and About Which They Are Passionate

There’s a school of thought in life that emphasizes that people who do things they love and something about which they are fervent arrive at a breathtaking place in life. Stated another way, when people do what they love, they rarely if ever experience boredom or an uneventful life. If they involve themselves in something that is satisfying, what is more, they become more complete and experience more pleasure and delight in life.

To me, this sounds quite a bit different from a life that is centered in drug and alcohol addiction because such a lifestyle removes the gratification and joy that life has to offer.

Due to the fact that Rachael lacks the grit to accomplish much of anything in her life, it is obvious that she desperately needs a little hope for a better lifestyle. And the unfortunate thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Rachael if she could only get to the place in life to get the therapy she needs for her mental illness and drug addiction and alcohol dependency and stick with her treatment program.

A Wonderful Life, Self Respect, and Beneficial Change Are Possibilities

Rachael is simply too young to be beaten in life. She doesn’t comprehend this right now but if she can learn how to remove herself from alcohol and drugs via drug and alcohol therapy and get the treatment she needs for her bipolar issue, she can reorient her life and start living with direction, passion, and with self-respect.

Beneficial change, self respect, and a wonderful life are certainly a reality for Rachael if only she could get inspired to seek the professional rehab she requires, follow through with her therapy regimen, live her life in a healthy and sober way, and acquire a more positive attitude about her existence.

Jesse had a very difficult time keeping a job. If truth be told, due to his languor and lack of motivation, he was out of work far more regularly than he was in a job situation. And when he did get a job, he had a particularly hard time getting to work when his shift started, he typically received less than great performance appraisals, and he called off sick so regularly that he commonly got fired a few weeks after he started working. To no one’s disbelief, one of the outcomes of Jesse’s appalling work track record was the fact that he was virtually broke almost on a daily basis.

Regardless of Jesse’s irresponsible work record and financial negligence, conversely, by some means he made it his business to drink in a hazardous and irresponsible manner most of the time.

So it came as no big jolt when Jesse got a fifth DUI. When he went to court, the magistrate explained to Jesse that his alcohol-related behavior was irresponsible and, as a result, he was going to sentence Jesse to spend twelve months in the local jail.

Time Behind Bars To Think About The Harmful Outcomes of Irresponsible Drinking

During his time in jail, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the hurtful results of hazardous and excessive drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol rehab. The magistrate emphasized the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol counseling and discovers how to live a life of abstinence, he will most likely be spending quite a bit of his time in the municipal jail.

Jesse said that he understood what the magistrate was uttering but he still claimed that placement in the local jail was not the most effective sentence. The judge saw things in an entirely different Manner and proclaimed that it was his job to keep alcohol dependent individuals off the streets who drive under the influence and who receive one or more DUIs. To support this perspective, the magistrate outlined some honored, highly researched alcohol statistics that stressed some of the hurtful effects that are associated with irresponsible drinking.

Although Jesse realized that he drank heavily, he never felt that he was alcohol dependent. So it was a real shocker when Jesse began experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms around eight hours after after getting locked up in the city jail.

To deal with his alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a harm free manner, Jesse was life flighted to a rehabilitation center for alcohol detox and then brought back to the city jail. While locked up in the local jail Jesse was given alcohol rehabilitation but since he got this rehab as something that was forced upon him, he did not take ownership of his hazardous drinking.

When his time in jail was finished, the judge without hesitation told Jesse that he would be under careful observation and would be required to take random alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Irresponsible and Abusive Drinking Prevents Him From Living in an Effective and Productive Manner

After hearing how Jesse failed to take ownership of his drinking circumstances and how he reluctantly followed the therapy policy and procedures while in the municipal jail, the magistrate knew that it was just a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his thoughtless drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never use their brain and discover how to live in an accountable and effective manner.

Heather is a forty-five-year-old woman who is the top administrator in the human resources department at a large silver plating company. In order to lower the costs associated with excessive sick days, poor employee work performance, employee alcohol abuse and alcoholism, increasing absenteeism, and work related injuries, Heather and the other VIPs launched several programs that made the work atmosphere substantially more safe, more productive, and healthy.

As an example, fifteen years ago Heather and the other VIPs established an Employee’s Assistance Program so that all the employees had access to professional therapy for their personal problems that could adversely influence their health, personal well-being, and their work performance.

The Company Administrators Build An Avant-Garde Workout and Exercise Room Complete With Weights, Mirrors, a Personal Trainer During Business Hours, Scales, Exercise Charts, and Exercise Equipment

As another example, about seven years ago Heather and the other company leaders erected an avant-garde exercise and workout room complete with mirrors, scales, weights, exercise charts, a professional trainer during business hours, and many different types of exercise equipment.

In addition, nearly five years ago Heather and the other company leaders invested in a purification system that filters all the water that is obtainable throughout the main building. In a similar manner, two-and-a-half years ago, Heather and the other company leaders started a “walking club” that is essentially intended for workers who want to learn how to boost their cardiovascular system.

The Company Executives Establish a Weight-Watchers Class and Employ a Weight-Loss Trainer to Supervise the Program

As another example, roughly two-and-a-half years ago, Heather and the other company leaders developed a “Weight-Watchers” class that at present meets every weekday at noon until 1:00 PM. In addition, the company executives signed up a weight-loss nurse to manage the program.

In a similar manner, a year-and-a-half ago Heather and the other company administrators instituted a “Stop Smoking Club” for employers who want to learn how to stop or reduce their smoking.

In the last nine months, in combination with the Employee’s Assistance Program, Heather and the other members of upper management put into operation an “Anger Management” class for employees who want to control their anger.

The Company Leaders Put Into Operation a Drug and Alcohol Testing Program

In the last four-and-a-half months, Heather and the other company executives instituted a alcohol and drug testing program that is tied into their drug and alcohol abuse prevention program. In actual fact, Heather is the key person in the company responsible for getting the message out to all the workers about the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program as well as the drug and alcohol testing program.

One of the fundamental elements of the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcoholism and Depression” that meets every Friday after work. The primary idea with this class is informing workers that abusive drinking and depression regularly happen in the same individual. It is hoped that realizing this information will be able to help an individual address both medical problems and get the alcohol rehabilitation and mental health therapy he or she requires.

The Company Administrators Initiate an Alcohol Statistics and Facts Class

Another fairly recent enhancement to the drug and alcohol abuse prevention program is a class entitled “Alcohol Statistics and Facts.” The rationale behind this alcohol statistics facts class is the reality that quite a few people fail to grasp the total impact of the effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism without first learning about some of the alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that are available. Consequently, one of the goals of this class is to provide a variety of alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse statistics and facts to help employees gain a better understanding of the large number of issues that are correlated with irresponsible and excessive drinking and how they can prevent these issues from occurring.

Most recently, Heather and the other members of upper management, via feedback from employees, initiated a class that focuses directly on acute drinking entitled “What is Alcoholism”? This class meets every Friday morning an hour before work and focuses chiefly on the differences between alcoholism and alcohol abuse, on the stages of alcoholism, and on the different kinds of therapy that are available for people who have alcohol drinking problems such as individuals who drink in an irresponsible manner.

Although every single one of these health and preventative maintenance programs was anything but easy on the pocketbook, upper management reasons that they are several thousands of dollars ahead by providing all of their workers with a safe, healthy, and more productive work atmosphere.

Teresa was a forty-year-old marketing manager who knew that she had a problem with her drinking. For example, within the past three months she has experienced the need to have more than a few drinks before going to work, a week ago she failed a random breathalyzer test at her place of employment, seven weeks ago she got arrested for “driving under the influence”, and lastly, for about four months she has started to fail to remember what she says and does when she drinks with her friends.

Similar to multitudes of other people, Teresa’s involvement with alcohol began gradually and stayed at this pace for quite a long period of time due to the fact at times she engaged in sporadic social drinking. As a matter of fact, for almost nine months, every time she went out with her buddies to drink, she made sure to drink in moderation. Something about her drinking situation, nevertheless, seemed to totally change when she got divorced from her husband.

In Order To Get Beyond the Breakup of Her Husband In a More Uncomplicated Manner, Teresa Made Up Her Mind That She Will Begin Going Out More Repeatedly With Some of Her Buddies Who Love to Have Fun Drinking

Teresa got especially gloomy about the divorce from her husband, and as a way to refrain from fixating on her dismal feelings she came to the conclusion that she would begin hanging around more regularly with some of her pals who love to whoop it up and drink.

Quite honestly, Teresa truly believed that having fun almost every day by partying and drinking with her pals would help her recover from the divorce of her husband in a less troublesome manner.

Teresa’s Drinking Increases Significantly the More Frequently She Goes to Sporting Events, Family Get-Togethers, Dinner Dates, Happy Hours, and Private Parties With Her Friends

It didn’t take too long, nonetheless, before her drinking escalated considerably the more routinely she went to and drank at private parties, dinner dates, happy hours, sporting events, and family get-togethers with her friends. Furthermore, the fact that her drinking buddies were all many years younger than she was and therefore able to drink and party more carelessly was one of the reasons why she didn’t allocate more of her attention to her increased drinking. In a word, she was having fun drinking just like everyone else in her group of buddies without giving too much consideration about the unhealthy effects of her abusive and hazardous drinking.

Yet somewhere in her mind she knew that she probably needed alcohol rehab but avoided the thought as much as possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical Examination, Owns up to the Truth About Her Irresponsible and Abusive Drinking to Her Doctor, and Owns Up to the Truth About Her General State of Despair

One morning during her six-month physical examination, her healthcare professional asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her healthcare practitioner, Teresa ”came clean” and stated that she commonly drinks more than she should. As a matter of fact, she said that she frequently drinks in an irresponsible manner. Then Teresa told her doctor about her depression. More specifically, she mentioned that broken relationships often caused a negative sequence of events characterized by increased drinking which further resulted in more disheartening feelings that, in turn, resulted in even more drinking. And this is specifically what took place when her husband and she got divorced nine months ago.

When her healthcare professional heard this, he told Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was reviewing, alcoholism and depression often take place in the same individual. He then told Teresa that some of the alcohol statistics, facts, and research investigations he has been studying also highlight the fact that people who drink in an abusive and hazardous manner and who also experience depression need to obtain treatment for both medical circumstances.

Teresa’s Healthcare Professional Schedules an Appointment for a Psychological Appraisal and For an Alcohol Dependency and Alcohol Abuse Assessment

Teresa’s doctor then articulated the following: “I am not trying to make a sudden judgment, but with your medical situation we may be working with two separate problems. Consequently, I think we probably need to make an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency evaluation from my partner, Dr. Wallace, who is a substance abuse and alcohol abuse specialist. Whether your drinking circumstance is more correlated with alcoholism or alcohol abuse is unknown at this time, but I believe that further evaluation is warranted. Then I think we need to schedule an appointment for you to get a psychological assessment from another one of my partners, Dr. Kanter, who is a psychologist. I want to get a deeper understanding about your pessimism and see how much your drinking and depression are related.” Teresa showed her endorsement of her physician’s line of attack and thanked him for his assistance. Now all she had to do was to try to trim down on her drinking and wait for her appointments.

Teresa was a thirty-four-year-old real estate agent who knew that she had some drinking issues. As an illustration, within the past two months she has felt the need to have two or three drinks before going to work, seven weeks ago she failed a random saliva alcohol test where she is employed, three months ago she got arrested by the police for “driving under the influence”, and last but not least, for about seven months she has begun to fail to remember what she says and does when she goes out drinking with her pals.

Not unlike many other individuals, Teresa’s alcohol involvement started out at a “snail’s pace” and stayed at this speed for quite a long period of time because at times she engaged in sporadic social drinking. In reality, for around a year, every time she went out with her coworkers to drink, she made sure to drink in moderation. Something about her drinking activities, however, seemed to completely change when she got divorced.

In Order To Recover From the Breakup of Her Husband In a Less Troublesome Manner, Teresa Determined That She Will Start Palling Around More Often With Some of Her Pals Who Love to Have Fun and Drink

Teresa got dreadfully “down” about the divorce from her husband, and as a way to abstain from fixating on her dismal emotions she made up her mind to start palling around more repeatedly with some of her buddies who love to have fun drinking.

Quite sincerely, Teresa reasoned that having fun nearly every day by partying and drinking with her pals would help her overcome the divorce of her husband more rapidly.

Teresa’s Drinking Escalates Greatly the More Often She Goes to Happy Hours, Dinner Dates, Family Get-Togethers, Sporting Events, and Private Parties With Her Pals

It didn’t take very long, nonetheless, before her drinking increased substantially the more routinely she went to and drank at dinner dates, sporting events, happy hours, private parties, and family get-togethers with her buddies. In addition, the fact that her drinking pals were all much younger than she was and therefore able to party and drink harder and more frequently was one of the reasons that she didn’t focus more on her increased drinking. In short, she was having a blast drinking just like everyone else in her group of pals without much forethought about the unhealthy effects of her irresponsible and hazardous drinking.

Yet someplace in her awareness she realized that she more likely than not required alcohol rehabilitation but kept away from the thought as much as humanly possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical, Discloses the Truth About Her Excessive Drinking to Her Physician, and Acknowledges Her Melancholy

One day during her twelve month physical exam, her healthcare professional asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell “stories” to her healthcare professional, Teresa ”came clean” and stated that she routinely drinks more than she should. In fact, she articulated that she commonly drinks in an irresponsible and abusive manner. Then Teresa informed her healthcare professional about her dejection. More explicitly, she articulated that broken relationships often started a depressing chain of events typified by increased drinking which further led to more dismal feelings that, in turn, led to even more drinking. And this is exactly what took place when her husband and she got divorced seven months ago.

When her doctor heard this, he told Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was investigating, alcoholism and depression many times take place in the same individual. He then told her that some of the alcohol statistics, research investigations, and facts he has been reading about also highlight the fact that individuals who drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner and who also experience depression need to receive treatment for both medical conditions.

Teresa’s Healthcare Professional Makes an Appointment for a Psychological Appraisal and For an Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction Assessment

Teresa’s healthcare practitioner then stated the following: “I am not trying to make an unprofessional analysis, but with your medical circumstances we may be working with two separate matters. Consequently, I think we ought to schedule an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction appraisal from my partner, Dr. Franks, who is an alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction specialist. Whether your drinking situation is more correlated with alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse is unclear, but I think that further assessment is defensible. Then I think we should schedule an appointment for you to get a psychological evaluation from another one of my partners, Dr. Harwood, who is a counseling psychologist. I want to get a better grip on your depression and see how much your depression and drinking are correlated.” Teresa displayed her agreement with her healthcare practitioner’s treatment approach and thanked him for his help and concern. Now all she had to do was to try to reduce her drinking and wait for her appointments.

Daniel had been engaging in hazardous drinking behavior since her senior year in college. Now, three years later, she drank more than ever. One Tuesday evening when she wasn’t feeling too well, Daniel decided to stay home, unwind, and watch television.

While looking for something to watch that she would find a little out of the ordinary, she instantly became fascinated with a program about young adult and teen drinking problems.

When The Usual Alcohol Dependency Symptoms and Signs are Displayed by Alcohol Addicted People

The speaker articulated the difference between alcoholism and alcohol abuse and then discussed the subject of alcoholic symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the commenter discussed a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more typical alcohol addiction signs and symptoms that individuals dependent on alcohol manifest, Daniel got quite alarmed because it virtually seemed as if the speaker was talking directly to her.

After watching the TV documentary, Daniel made a promise to herself that she would call her physician the following morning and make an appointment to discuss her drinking situation.

When the next business day arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care provider and made an appointment. While she was waiting for the day of her appointment to arrive, she went on the Internet and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially difficult were the following symptoms or signs: increasing irritability, major relationship and work-related problems, sleep problems, making excuses to drink at virtually every opportunity, and sneaking extra drinks before social events.

Stated simply, due to the fact that Daniel exhibited all of these signs she went into greater detail in her online search and found quite a few blogs and websites that articulated diverse alcoholism symptoms and warning signs.

One of the signs that really caught her attention was the following: “Do you commonly drink after making a promise to yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never totally comprehended the fact that she may have a severe drinking difficulty, after reading about the various alcohol dependency symptoms and warning signs, she couldn’t counter the fact that for the past seven or eight months, she continually tried but was not successful at appreciably decreasing her drinking or stopping entirely.

When Friends and People at Your Place of Employment Upset You by Disapproving of Your Abusive Drinking Behavior

Another alcohol dependency symptom that took hold of her interest was the following: “Have people at your place of employment hassled you by frowning upon your problem drinking?” When Daniel read this she at once recalled a recent argument she had with her husband about her irresponsible drinking. In addition, Daniel clearly called to mind a recent argument she had with her parents about her excessive drinking. Due to the fact that Daniel sincerely believed that she didn’t have a drinking problem, when relatives pointed out her drinking she as expected got aggravated and angry.

A third alcohol dependency symptom was the following: “Do you crave a drink when you first get up in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been lying to herself about her drinking behavior. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning signs, however, she knew if she was really honest with herself that she was facing a major drinking difficulty, especially given the fact that she now felt that she required a drink the first thing when she woke up to cut down on her tension.

What is more, the next alcohol addiction symptom really got her thinking about her problem drinking: “Do you drink to elude reality or difficulties?” When she thought about her life for a few moments, she comprehended that nearly in every arduous situation in the past several months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help manage things.

The final alcohol addiction symptom that made her feel especially apprehensive about her drinking circumstance was the following: “Has your enthusiasm for life diminished since you started drinking on a more routine basis?” When Daniel read this sign she openly comprehended that drinking had become a severe difficulty in her life because of her diminished energy level and also because she gave up pursuing her goals and her passions.

Summary: When Depression Turns Into Something Thrilling and A Sense of Hopefulness

After thinking about all of these damaging alcohol addiction symptoms and signs, Daniel at first felt miserable. Then something amazing took place. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her health care provider about her drinking and she also reflected on the fact that that she would talk about all of the above alcohol dependency warning symptoms and signs with her. To be sure, for the first time in quite a few months, Daniel frankly felt a sense of hope because she was confronting her drinking difficulties and was at last ready to make the necessary alterations so that she could reclaim the life that was slipping away.

Jennifer is a thirty-year-old loan processor who has been drinking in an irresponsible and abusive manner since her fiancée and she broke off their relationship. In actual fact, for the past five months she has been drinking just about two bottles of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number shots all through the day.

After feeling dispirited because she was beginning to disregard her health, Jennifer at last told herself that enough is enough, that it’s time to quit the self pity act, that it’s time to quit the abusive and hazardous drinking, and time to get on with her life. So the following Saturday morning at 9:30 AM, she decided to quit drinking cold turkey.

When She Attempted to Stop Drinking She Felt Dreadful, She Had Utterly No Appetite, She Vomited Numerous Times, She Started to Sweat Extensively, Her Head Was Aching, and She Was Extremely Moody and Anxious

When Jennifer quit drinking, she reasoned that she would most likely be tempted to take a couple of drinks, but she never figured that she would feel so terrible. More explicitly, around four hours after she stopped drinking, she was extremely moody and uptight, she had utterly no appetite, her head was aching, she started to perspire extensively, and she vomited numerous times.

When she called her best buddy and informed her that she had quit drinking and that after a few hours she abruptly began experiencing flu-like symptoms, Joyce, her best friend, told Jennifer to call her medical practitioner and explain what was happening.

She Admits to Her Doctor That She Has Been Drinking In an Excessive Manner, That She Just Tried to Quit Drinking, and That She is Going Through Extremely Painful Flu-Like Symptoms

So Jennifer called her medical practitioner, informed him that she has been drinking in an excessive and hazardous manner for several months and that when she honestly tried to abruptly quit drinking earlier in the day, within a couple of hours she felt as if she had the most horrible flu-like symptoms that she had ever gone through.

Her healthcare professional informed her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have a friend or neighbor drive her to the emergency room as soon as humanly possible.

As soon as Jennifer got off the phone, she got a neighbor to take her to the emergency room. Interestingly, as sick as Jennifer was, all she could think about all the way to the hospital was whether or not she was dependent on alcohol.

Obviously her physician had called ahead and told the emergency room treatment team to expect Jennifer because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two nurses who without hesitation told her to get in the wheelchair they had with them. After getting taken to the emergency room and undergoing a few basic tests, it was confirmed that Jennifer was in fact suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms and was in need of alcohol detox.

An emergency room healthcare practitioner gave her some medications to address her flu-like symptoms and also administered some meds to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her blood.

A Substance Abuse and Chemical Dependency Doctor Discusses That She is Alcohol Dependent and Then Discusses What Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms and Alcohol Dependency Stages Are

After a couple of hours, Jennifer was taken from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room. After she was in recovery for roughly three hours, Doctor Reyes, a drug and alcohol addiction specialist, came to see her. He took his time and explained that Jennifer had gone through alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she quit drinking because she had become alcohol dependent.

He then explained that with heavy drinking on an everyday basis, the person’s brain slowly gets acclimated to the alcohol so that it can work in a “normal” fashion. When the person then all of a sudden refrains from ingesting alcohol, as one would expect, the brain takes action by producing alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Moreover, her doctor also clearly explained the different alcoholism stages that a person who is alcohol dependent typically experiences as the disease gets progressively worse as time goes by.

It is Confirmed that Jennifer is in the Earliest Stage of Alcohol Addiction and She Gets a Good Forecast For a Total Recovery if She Gets the Alcoholism Rehabilitation She Needs

Fortunately for Jennifer, it was discovered that she was in the earliest stage of alcoholism and, as a result, she was given a favorable diagnosis for a total recovery if she receives the alcohol addiction rehabilitation she needs.

Jennifer told the healthcare professional that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to get back her health and her life. She also mentioned that she has a very comprehensive hospitalization policy that will probably pay for most, if not all, of the costs required for treatment. It was apparent that Jennifer was extremely pleased with her positive medical forecast and felt reassured knowing that she will be able to get the alcoholism rehabilitation she requires so that she can start on the path to recovery.

Jerry and Sarah have been married for six years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they decided to have some kids and so they deliberately fashioned an exceptionally dynamic social life.

The basic issue, it needs to be stressed, is that just about everything they do with their family and friends somehow includes drinking. As an illustration, all of the happy hours, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and sporting events they go to include drinking.

Sarah and Jerry Start to Perceive Some Obvious Alcohol Related Issues That Come From Their Hazardous Drinking

If they were responsible drinkers, this wouldn’t be such a major issue. Due to the fact they drink quite irresponsibly, however, they are beginning to see some clearly identifiable alcohol-related issues in their lives.

As an illustration, just two days ago Jerry was arrested for a third DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health issues. What is more, Jerry’s last two or three performance assessments at work have been less than creditable and he has started to fail to recall what he does or says when he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been having sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit some uneasiness about his drinking situation.

Sarah, on the other hand, has been feeling unhappy about things in her life and to handle these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past ten months. Moreover, Sarah has been getting a lot of migraine headaches and suffering from dreadful hangovers because of her drinking. Lastly, Sarah has been feeling substantially less energetic when she awakens in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least two days per week, and she has been receiving some harsh criticism from her relatives, family members, friends, and coworkers about her hazardous drinking.

Watching the Television and Going Through the Channels and Discovering A Fascinating Program About the Signs of Alcohol Dependency

One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Sarah and Jerry stumbled upon an out-of-the-ordinary program about the signs of alcoholism.

This television documentary was a real source of discovery to Jerry and Sarah because more than a few of the alcoholism signs that were highlighted looked as if they were indubitably related to more than a few of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.

An Open Conversation About Drinking Circumstances Unearths Alcohol Related Employment, Relationship, Health, Financial, and Legal Problems

After watching the television special, Jerry and Sarah determined that they needed to have a forthright chat about their drinking activities. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social functions somehow included drinking, that they were drinking excessively, and that as a married couple, they were beginning to make note of alcohol related health, legal, relationship, employment, and financial problems for the first time since they were married.

With thoughts of the television program still etched in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been manifesting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or possibly becoming alcohol dependent. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the physicians at the local alcohol abuse rehab facility to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking difficulties.

Concentrating On Your Drinking Problems Might Reduce Your Trepidation and Give You Some Serenity

Ironically, although their drinking situation hadn’t yet changed, it was apparent that Jerry and Sarah were at the very least concentrating on their drinking difficulties, they were ready to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were concerned about how they could substantially cut back on or eliminate the alcohol-related issues that had started to get worse.

When Sarah and Jerry went to bed that night, they made up their minds that the next morning, Jerry would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center located just North of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to overcome the drinking difficulties that had become apparent in their lives, they actually had the most peaceful night’s sleep they could bring to mind in the last month.

Just before she fell asleep, Sarah turned to Jerry and pointed out how easy it is to decrease one’s nervousness and in point of fact experience some serenity by coming to terms with one’s problems straight on and making up one’s mind to do something productive about them.

Miss Benning was a health teacher at the most financially challenged co-ed high school in the local community. Although she had been teaching for only two or three years, she had already established a reputation as a person with educational approaches that motivated and stimulated pupils to learn and to think.

For instance, one Friday afternoon she addressed the students in her class and announced the following: “For the next two or three days we are going to learn about some basic alcoholism facts from a more broad-based perspective and we are also going to learn about some of the most common signs of alcoholism from a less general and more explicit viewpoint.

Not all of these alcoholism signs will positively reveal that a drinker with a drinking problem is an alcohol dependent person, but the more signs that an individual manifests, the higher the probability that he or she is a person who is addicted to alcohol.”

Miss Benning then informed the class members that each person would be accountable for investigating three alcohol addiction signs and then presenting his or her conclusions to the other members in the class via a ten minute oral presentation.

The Pupils are Thrilled About Giving A Broad-Based Presentation to Their Fellow Classmates About Alcohol Addiction Signs

After learning about the different signs of alcohol dependency for quite a few days, the time had finally come for the student presentations. It was immediately obvious that the pupils in her class were enthused about the topic because the material that they presented was superb. To say that Miss Benning was pleasantly surprised with the interest manifested by the students in her classroom concerning this topic was an understatement.

The day after all of the pupils completed their presentations, Miss Benning passed out a sheet of paper with a list of all the alcoholism signs that were presented and discussed in class and in the presentations. Miss Benning then asked the pupils in her classroom to go over the list and rank the top six alcoholism signs that were most indicative of alcoholism. After approximately fifteen minutes, Miss Benning collected the pieces of paper and told the students in her classroom that after she analyzes the numbers, she will present her findings the next school day.

There was some real excitement by the pupils while they were exiting Miss Benning’s class. One could swear that her students couldn’t wait for the next day to come so that they could find out the outcome of their in-class research.

The Students Contrast Their Answers With the Findings From A Council of Substance Abuse Experts

When the next school day arrived, Miss Benning gave out a piece of paper that listed the top three alcoholism signs according to the pupils’ rankings. Next to these results, she added another column that was labeled “experts’ response.” She then informed the pupils in her class that the numbers in the second column she added signified the responses that were constructed by a group of substance abuse professionals.

Miss Benning asked her students to go over the information she passed out and then to raise their hand if they had any concerns, questions, or issues. Within a minute or two, virtually every student in the classroom raised her or his hand. It was evident that the pupils had some concerns, issues, or questions about their results versus the answers given by the experts. For instance, virtually every individual in the class disagreed with the highest ranked answer given by the specialists, to be exact, “Do you feel really sick when you stop drinking?”

The Key Difference Between Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism is the Physical Dependency That is Experienced With Alcohol Dependency and Not With Alcohol Abuse

Miss Benning then informed the pupils in her class why this answer was the most unambiguous indicator of alcohol addiction. She highlighted the fact that the key difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction is the physical addiction that is experienced with alcoholism and not with alcohol abuse.

Basically this means that when an individual who is addicted to alcohol all of a sudden quits drinking, he or she will go through alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Miss Benning then informed the students in her class that alcohol withdrawal symptoms are responses by the brain and by the body to the lack of alcohol to which they had become accustomed. Stated more precisely, alcohol withdrawal symptoms are signals from the brain and from the body telling a person who is addicted to alcohol that something is terribly wrong and needs to be fixed. These signals consist of a number of dangerous, painful, and uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms that can possibly lead to a fatality if the appropriate therapy is not immediately received.

Miss Benning then went over the many different alcohol withdrawal symptoms that can be gone through when an alcohol addicted person suddenly stops drinking.

The point that Miss Benning tried to underscore was this: an individual who engages in alcohol abuse can experience almost any and every one of the alcohol addiction signs that the students had ranked, but the one symptom or sign that few, if any, individuals who engage in alcohol abuse ever experience is alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

To articulate this as plainly as possible, Miss Benning emphasized the point that alcohol abusers, unlike people who are alcohol dependent, are not alcohol dependent and accordingly, when they stop drinking, they almost never suffer from alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

The Pupils Feel They Have Discovered A Deviation With the Findings From The Council of Alcohol Dependency Specialists

The students also disagreed with the second ranked answer given by the alcohol dependency professionals, to be precise, “Have you ever had a drink the first thing in the morning to get rid of a hangover or to steady your nerves?”

Miss Benning informed the pupils in her classroom that this sign does not necessarily denote that the problem is alcohol addiction, but that it does underscore the need that individuals who are alcohol dependent have to drink in order to avoid alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

After Miss Benning explained the importance of alcohol withdrawal symptoms in the life of the alcohol addicted person, the students started to appreciate the main difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency.

To add a sense of closure to the subject matter, Miss Benning asked the pupils in her classroom to take out a sheet of paper and answer the following question: “if every individual who is addicted to alcohol knew about every one of the alcohol addiction signs and alcohol withdrawal symptoms we have studied, what percentage of them do you think would get alcohol dependency rehabilitation?”

After approximately one or two minutes, Miss Benning asked for the pupils’ predictions. While many pupils figured that roughly 85 to 95 percent of individuals who are addicted to alcohol would ask for alcohol treatment if they knew about the facts related to alcohol withdrawal symptoms and alcohol addiction signs, most of the pupils reasoned that this number would not be less than 60 percent.

The Students Were Shocked to Discover That Only 25% of Alcoholics in the U.S. Seek Alcohol Rehab

To the amazement of most of the students, Miss Benning mentioned that according to the research literature, only 25% of the alcohol dependent individuals in the U.S. get alcoholism rehabilitation. This surprised most of the students because they believed that exposure to the appalling statistics and facts associated with alcohol addiction would motivate most of the alcoholics to seek alcoholism rehabilitation.

Miss Benning then explained that alcohol addicted people not only need alcohol on a daily basis in order to function but they also need alcohol everyday so they can stay away from possible alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Obviously, the alcohol addicted individual’s need to drink on a daily basis is stronger than facts or logic. Indeed, since the thirst for alcohol is “reality” to the alcohol dependent individual, this is difficult to change.

A few minutes later the bell rang, signifying the end of the class. Based on the buzz manifested by the students when they were leaving the room, Miss Benning recognized that she had inspired and stimulated the students in her classroom to stop and think about a vital health and social problem that exists in our society.
